Port Aransas and Mustang Island are separated from North Padre Island by the Packery Channel. The man made channel was dredged just a few years ago. The Packery Channel Jetty is the southern most tip of Mustang Island about 17 miles from the Port Aransas Jetty on the northern tip of Mustang Island. The Port Aransas Jetty and the Saint Joseph Island Jetty guard the Corpus Christi Ship Channel slicing the largest cut in the island chain. Port Aransas benefits by immediate Gulf Of Mexico access through the protected ship channel.
