July 4th in Port Aransas

The weekend of July 4th has heated up! Summer tempatures are above normal for the year. Judging by the traffic flow of vehicles onto the island many people are coming to Port Aransas and Mustang Island to beat the summer heat. Water conditions are the best the have been for a while. Clear, green, calm water that is cool for this time of year welcomes visitors to the Island.

The waters of the Gulf of Mexico as well as bay waters are starting to warm up now that Spring is here. Port Aransas fishing reports and fishing forecasts are available for the upcoming week at www.port-aransas.net. Over the past 10 days fishing reports are increasing better. Surf fishing, Horace Caldwell and Bob Hall Pier, Redfish and Corpus Christi Bays have picked up in fishing activity.

The first wave hit the beaches of Port Aransas this Spring Break 2009 as the Sun warmed away the cold air and Spring conditions took over. Major Universities on break this week converged on Port Aransas beaches. Expect the Mustang Island beaches to fill with tens of thousands of people over the next few days as the local weather continues to warm and the people swarm the South Texas beaches for Sun, Sand and a whole lot of Fun.

Spring Break 2009 is moving into the two biggest weeks starting Saturday March 14th. Cold weather that moved into the area is expected to be replaced with warm tempatures on area beaches. Even more good news is there are hotel rooms still available for those who have decided to leave on this last minute.

Port Aransas is one of the best USA locations for Spring Break as it offers visitors the ability to park their car and enjoy the beaches, fishing, eating and nightlife without ever leaving the sub-tropical Mustang Island.

Winter gives us another blast of cold air as we head into the first weekend of one of the largest weeks in Spring Break 2009. Tempatures in the 50's are forecasted through Saturday with some rain. Sunday looks to bring clear skies and the start of warming trend as we head into next week. Forecasters at the National Weather Service show Monday warming up and the sun coming out. Hopefully the rain will firm up the sand on area beaches to make driving a lot easier.

The first wave of 2009 Spring Breakers have begun to arrive this weekend. Stores are little more crowded than they have been all winter and it is all just getting started. Spring Break 2009 is officially kicked off with the Sun shining and great weather. Fishing has picked up and a small spring swell is hitting the beach for the visiting and resident surfers at the TGSA Port Aransas Open. Waves are forecasted to remain for the week surf forecast.

Fulton OysterFest

The Fulton Oysterfest kicks off this coming Thursday, March 5th at 5pm. Fulton has been celebrating the oyster now for 30 years. Live music, art, food, acarnival and plenty oysters make for 4 days of fun on the coast. The Oysterfest event has attendance of over 20,000 people to the event. Spring Break 2009

The 13th annual Whooping Crane festival will wind up this weekend as we head into the month of March. Just like the migratory Cranes themselves who migrate North to South in the fall and back North again in the Spring the migration of Winter Texans back to their Summer residence will begin. A new migration will begin, a shorter more intense visitor, to arrive in March. The college students mixed with familes taking a break on the beaches of Mustang Island will converge on Port Aransas for what begins a month long party. Locals will stock up on groceries and hunker down for the biggest week of Spring Break as driving anywhere becomes challenging. Thus begins Spring and the kick off of Summer activities to follow.

Whooping Cranes

Decided to take the hour drive over to the Aransas Wildlife Refuge this past weekend. Hoped to see the couple of Whooping Cranes that take up residence here during the winter. We caught a glimpse of the cranes through the leans atop the viewing tower. As you can see from the phot I included on this post, you need a lot of glass to get up close to the whoopers from the tower. Even with the ongoing South Texas drought and the distance between us and the cranes we still had a great time at the Refuge as always. The annual Whooping Crane Festival is coming up this weekend in Port Aransas. For details and information call the Port A Chamber of Commerce at 1-800-45-coast

First post for my Port Aransas Texas weblog. We have used a classic template and loaded onto the website www.port-aransas.net. This was a new attempt for me to host a blog versus using one of the templates hosted by blogger or another service. So far all seems to be working as is it supposed to.
